Gates are the highest-touch item on any fencing job - they get used every day, they take the weather, they take the wear, and they are the item that people notice first when they walk past your frontage. On Deal seafront and Middle Street they are the item the conservation officer notices first.
Pedestrian gates
Timber pedestrian gates range from a plain matchboarded gate on an existing post pair, drop-latch and slam-catch, treated softwood, up to a heritage-picket painted gate on new posts, drop-bolt and self-closing hinge kit, oak or estate-grade softwood painted heritage black. Cedar-clad face on a treated softwood frame is the salt-air upgrade for beach-front and seafront plots - cedar handles salt without paint-flake-every-two-years.
Metal pedestrian gates: powder-coated steel, dark green, black or RAL-to-spec. Wrought-iron look with square-bar fill for the traditional Deal frontage. Self-closing hinges and drop-bolts standard on any gate over 900mm.
Driveway gates
Single driveway gates: five-bar timber is the simpler option, timber-clad steel frame or metal wrought-iron look costs more. Kingsdown clifftop wind-exposure jobs need extra frame bracing and cost more as a result.
Double driveway gates: a matched pair of cedar-clad five-bar gates with Bluetooth motor kit, drop-bolts, safety-edge and photocell is the top-spec option, priced by gate width and pier condition. A plain metal five-bar pair with manual drop-bolts is the simpler, cheaper option.
Automation
Bluetooth-app motor kits are the current default for automated driveway pairs - no fob to lose, no wired keypad to fail. Underground ram or above-ground arm motors depending on the pier and driveway condition. Safety-edge and photocell on any auto gate as standard, per BS EN 12453.
Coastal spec
Beach-front and seafront gates get hot-dip galvanised hardware, stainless-steel hinges, marine-grade coach bolts on the gate posts, and cedar-clad face on timber gates as the paint-free option. Standard powder-coat metal gates need the galv-under-powder spec to survive the salt air.
